Rugby News – U16 As continue brilliant season start

October 10, 2016

rugby-nov-28th-0316In midweek, the junior teams of the school were in action against Abberley Hall, with the u12 A’s winning 45 points to nil and the u13 B’s winning too despite the u13 A’s losing 25-10.

On Saturday against Sir Thomas Rich’s Grammar School, these same teams were unfortunate in sustaining a couple heavy losses, although the u13 A’s battled hard to lose only by a try and the u12 B’s won in an outstanding performance.

Whilst there were losses for both u15 teams as well as the u14 A’s, the u16 A’s once again proved victorious by a 26 points to 21 margin, with Mazhar scoring the winning try in yet another win for the side. The senior sides were unfortunate in their results however, with the 3rd team losing 27-14 whilst the 2nds went down by a 16-point margin.

For the 1st XV, it was new-look side with some senior players missing including Paris who was in Manchester representing Wales u18’s at Rugby League against England. Despite these changes, Monmouth were dominant throughout the game, before again lapses in concentration and discipline at times let Tommies steal the win by a solitary point. Despite this result, many positives can be drawn from the game, notably the outstanding performances of the numerous 6.1 boys in the team, with Laurie shining at fullback and Alexi scoring 2 tries. Our attention must now be turned to the block fixture against Malvern College this Saturday, where I’m sure many of you will be eager to prove yourselves after a disappointing weekend against Tommies.
