The victorious U13B team after their 65-0 victory on Saturday

As the season enters its latter stages, many Monmouth teams took part in a competitive set of fixtures. In the midweek, there was a 45 points to 10 win for the u12 A against Monmouth Comprehensive in a rare cross-town fixture. Although both the u12 and u13 A’s lost to Dean Close on Saturday, there were outstanding wins for both B teams who defeated their opponents by a combined 115 points. The block fixture against Millfield on Saturday was typically competitive, with only the u14 C’s winning, highlighting the quality of the opposition. The 1st XV were feeling buoyed on the back of wins against Dean Close and Christ’s College Brecon, but knew it would be a tall order against an opposition side containing multiple star players. However, Monmouth stormed off to a 21-5 lead at half time with excellent tries coming from Nick and Dylan. Disappointingly, Millfield were able to pull back in a real pendulum of a game, with Monmouth going down by the narrowest of margins. Despite the obvious disappointment of letting a lead slip, the players can be very proud indeed of their performance as the 1st half was perhaps the best half of schoolboy rugby I have seen or been a part of and bodes well for the final fixture against St Peter’s next weekend.
