OMs return to pass on their ‘First Class’ knowledge

September 19, 2016

agincourt-societyOld Monmothians Oliver D Jones and Nick Wright, who last summer scaled the impressive academic heights of Firsts in their History degrees from KCL and Cambridge respectively, returned to school yesterday to a meeting of the Agincourt Society (joint history society for Sixth Formers of both schools).

They regaled the current Sixth Form historians with accounts of their historical discoveries. Oliver spoke of his work on Caribbean and Deep South cultural history, investigating the impact on music and language of the African diaspora. He is about to continue this work as an MA dissertation at Cambridge. Nick, who is heading to London to become a barrister, explained his insights into Anglo-American policy towards China in the 1960s. Both spoke eloquently and passionately of the delights and difficulties of being research students and did much to inspire the current Sixth Formers.
