Form III Pembrokeshire Trip – First Hand Report!

September 27, 2016

pembrokeAn amazing time was had by all of the Form III who went on the Pembrokeshire Trip. In between the coasteering, surfing, hiking and climbing there were also lots of opportunities for socialising, eating, and generally getting to know each other which, after all, is the main purpose of this exciting trip. Here is a full, first hand report written by James in Form III which can leave you in no doubt that this was definitely an amazing trip for all of the boys and staff involved. Well done to everyone for organising it and enjoying it!

‘By 4pm we were on the coaches and all set for Pembrokeshire. After an exciting journey of song-singing and chattering we finally arrived at Celtic camping at around 8pm.

Dinner was served in the bunk house followed by bedtime. We slept in bunk beds, in dormitories in the bunk house. They were comfortable but my only complaint is that there was only 1 pillow!

pembrokeNext day, after breakfast, we were off hill-walking and we stopped to have lunch on the hill – Carn Llidi. The weather was not great that day, but cleared up in the afternoon when we did cliff climbing, which was great fun, but also a little scary. Also that afternoon, we did bouldering, which was climbing over large rocks without the aid of ropes.

After dinner that evening we did group activities in the field next to the bunk house.

After a lack of sleep from the night before, due to excitement, and all that activity, we were all shattered and slept like logs.

Thursday morning we were up bright and early ready for a day of surfing and coasteering. Kitted out in wet suits, we were given a surf board and went to catch some waves. It was brilliant fun and once we got the hang of it we proceeded to the next level, which was standing up on the surf board. It was hysterical with everyone falling off.

We went back to TYF for lunch and met Reverend Swartz and Mr Dorman. After lunch, the Reverend Swartz went surfing with one group and my group all went coasteering along with Mr Dorman; so, basically jumping off cliffs into water. It was fantastic fun and the sea was not actually as cold as we thought but it was definitely salty!

After dinner in the bunk house that evening there was a big surprise which was a bonfire and toasted marshmallows – YUM!

On the last morning, after another delicious breakfast, we packed up ready to leave. We just had enough time for another activity which was a treasure hunt where we had to answer questions on a sheet. After this, we jumped on the coach and headed back to school.

We had a brilliant time and got to try things that some of us had never done before. It was a really good experience. We had suitcases filled with smelly wet clothes and shoes we had used in the sea, but it didn’t matter because our parents had missed us loads!’
