Fashion Show is a hit for the FOMS

March 7, 2016

Perfectly poised pupils took to the runway to model a variety of outfits and extravagant hats during a fundraising fashion show.

Boys and girls from Monmouth School and its sibling, Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls, showcased stylish clothes available in some of the town’s boutiques at the event on Friday, February 26.

Hosted at The Blake Theatre and organised by Friends of Monmouth School, the trendy show may become an annual occasion thanks to its success.

Helen Fawcett, chairman of FOMS, said: “I think the verdict is that it was a very successful and enjoyable evening. The businesses involved are already asking about next year, which I suppose speaks for itself.

“I knew back in September that we needed to have some new fundraising ideas and I thought a fashion show would be fun – not that I know the first thing about fashion!

“I was keen to involve local businesses, and it is only recently that I realised it was quite a bold decision to hold a fashion show in a boys only school.

“However, I felt sure the lovely girls from HMSG would help me out, as indeed they did. If it wasn’t for them and the very brave boys from Monmouth School volunteering to be models, the show would never have taken place.

“Several of the models from both schools are involved in raising funds for the Upper Valley School in Burma and the FOMS are going to make a donation to their trip once the finances for the evening are complete.”

Raffle tickets alone raised £450 on the night, and Helen wanted to give a special thank you to Simon Gibson for organising a spa package from the Celtic Manor.

“On the day it was a huge team effort from the Friends and I am very grateful to everyone involved,” She added.
