Monmouth School Football Club has recently finished another fine season, with the U15 team lifting the Mercian League (a league of 15 independent schools) for the first time. Hallam was the star performer at this level, with an impressive 30 goals in 10 matches. The 1st XI finished a commendable 4th in the league and the 2nd XI narrowly missed out on taking top spot, finishing 2nd behind Marlborough.
Away from the Mercian League, the other six school sides were equally commendable, losing just 6 games between them all year. Over 70 fixtures were played this term and an excellent brand of football was watched by many.
The school sides get 3 hours of training each week and play every Saturday afternoon; this year, the boys have experienced some first class coaching from Richard Kear, Adriano Girolami, Andy Beattie and Steve Jenkins. As a result of some fine performances, several boys are now practising their skills with professional club academies. Monmouth School Football Club is now planning ahead and looking forward to their 2011 European Tour.
