Awards for Monmouth School Rowers

Monmouth School celebrated on Saturday after what had been a very proud moment for their rowing club.

In the summer, nine Haberdashers’ Monmouth School pupils, along with eight pupils from Shrewsbury School, formed part of a winning crew at the Home Countries International Regatta in Cork, Ireland.  On Saturday, at the annual Welsh Rowing Dinner, the combined crew won the prestigious ‘Team of the Year’ award.  Monmouth School and Welsh Junior men’s coach, Robin Fletcher, was also awarded ‘Coach of the Year’ and formed part of the winning ‘Coaching Team of the Year’.

Commenting on the awards, Robin Fletcher said, “I was delighted when the Monmouth School and Shrewsbury School combined crew were named team of the year.  This award is a recognition of their achievements in the summer, and more importantly, the crew’s commitment and dedication to rowing throughout the year.  Monmouth School has a thriving rowing club, with a number of members representing Wales and Great Britain at competitive level.  The senior rowers set an excellent example to the younger boys, and I am sure that this tradition of excellence will continue at Monmouth.”
