HMSG VS MS

Annually, boys from Monmouth School and girls from HMSG have a quiz against each other. This year, it was held in HMSG.

As the boys walked up the hill towards HMSG, we were all tired from our hard day’s work. A quick few minutes for refreshments wouldn’t hurt ould they?

After being fully restored, we joined our own teams in the library. Then the quiz began. My team consisted of: James, Ross, Jack and our captain Alex. Our first category was “Royalty”. We passed this round without any difficulty. Now it was time for the Chocolate round, we all sat on the edge of our seats, who wouldn’t want to win a packet of chocolates? Mrs Anderton read out a passage from a book, and we had to guess what book it was, Jack’s hand shot up, we all had our hopes up, expecting a packet of chocolates in our hands in the next few seconds. Was Jack’s answer correct? No it wasn’t. So we watched as the chocolates were given to someone else…

Not so long later, my team were given some tokens that could be exchanged for books. We won them because we scored the highest points in that round. Now we were on our fourth category: Chinese New Year, this was my team’s joker round which meant that whatever we scored would be doubled. This year was the year of the Dragon, so all questions were about dragons. We passed this round with full marks, so we received double as well! This gave us another token. After another quick refreshment break, it was time for the winner to be announced. The room was silent. The competition was going on all night, and all our efforts counted towards this trophy. The room was drenched in drama, and the winner was announced:  “Team 8, The Pink Griffins!” We all cheered! All our hard work paid off. Sadly, we won no chocolate, but we did win three book tokens.

We all enjoyed this tremendous night, both boys and girls. This event was wonderfully put together by the teachers!
