The South eventually ran out comfortable 6 – 2 winners, with both Hallam and Rhys setting up two goal apiece. Both boys will be back next year to represent the School 1st XI.
Monmouth School pupil Rhys has recently signed for Swansea City and becomes the second player from the school to have reached this level in recent years. Rhys, who is a sports scholar, has been at Monmouth School for 4 years and is currently in the first year of his G.C.S.E programme.
At the School he gets regular training from ex-professional and Welsh international footballer Steve Jenkins. Mark Tamplin, master in charge of football coaching at Monmouth School, has been impressed by Rhys’s development over the last few years and believes he deserves his chance. He comments that ‘Rhys is a real footballer with noticeable talent; his speed, flair and technical ability are all of the highest level and we wish him well in the future.’

Sixth formers Michael and Josh have gained representative honours in football; both were selected to play for the Southern Mercian League team. The team was made up of 16 boys from 8 independent schools. Although the result against the North didn’t go their way the boys acquitted themselves well and Josh was named ‘man of the match’ for the southern team.
