Pangbourne Junior Sculls

17 Monmouth crews and scullers raced in this 3km time trial that attracted a very large entry.

The best Monmouth results were:

  • James finished 9th out of 32 entrants in the J17 single sculls and third with Matt in the doubles
  • William was 8th out of 18 in J16 singles and 4th with Sam in the double sculls
  • The J18 Quad finished 5th, only 11 seconds behind the overall winners, Eton
  • In the J15 singles Dan rowed powerfully to finish 4th out of 34 boys in that category
  • Our fastest sculler, Tom, excelled in the J18 event in which he was the overall winner by a good margin

Wycliffe Small Boats Head

Ten crews from Monmouth School Rowing Club competed at Wycliffe Small Boats Head last weekend.  In the under 18 coxed fours category, Monmouth’s two teams took first and second place, comfortably beating Cheltenham College and St Edwards, Oxford.  The Under 16’s were not to be outdone with their A, B and C crews coming 1st, 3rd and 5th with convincing wins against strong competition from Shrewsbury School.  This was the first time in many years that Monmouth School has been able to boat three coxed fours from one year group and to beat a school of Shrewsbury’s strength and size in the first meeting of the year is a fantastic start to the year’s racing.

The school 3rd Eight performed well in the opening race of the season, posting the 7th quickest time of the event

Wallingford Long Distance Sculls

On Saturday the 29th of September the school's top seven scullers travelled up to Wallingford to compete in the long distance sculling head. After a “slight” delay during the journey to the race with a few wrong turnings here and there, we arrived with only ten minutes to get the boats sorted and be on the water. This lack of preparation time could have caused great upset to us, however we all stayed calm and organised, meaning the process went as efficiently as possible. The final results showed strength throughout the A squad, which is very promising for competitive crews later in the season.
