Monmouth School is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Simon Dorman as Second Master and teacher of German. Mr Dorman took over from Mr Mike Orton, who retired after 36 years’ distinguished service to the School.
Educated at Methodist College Belfast, Simon Dorman read German and Philosophy at Jesus College, Oxford, gaining a 1st Class honours. He then completed a Masters in Philosophy at Queen’s University, Belfast, before undertaking a PGCE.
Mr Dorman joins Monmouth after 10 years at The Leys School, Cambridge, during which time he was Head of German, Housemaster and rugby coach for the U16A XV. His first teaching post was at Gordonstoun as Head of German and Assistant Housemaster, and he also spent a year as a teacher of English and German in Seville.
Simon is an accomplished rugby player, having played at university level in the All-Ireland League, and is keen to continue his coaching at Monmouth. He is married to Miranda, who is originally from Penarth, and has two daughters. Simon and his family have already been made to feel very welcome in Monmouth, and are looking forward to making it their home. As Simon begins this new chapter in his teaching career he said,
“I am greatly looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead as I take up the post of Second Master. I have spent the summer holidays trying to immerse myself in the way Monmouth School runs to ensure that when the new term began in September I could hit the ground running. I understand just how all the new boys will be feeling; a mixture of excitement and a little trepidation!”
