Chaplaincy Team

The Schools which make up the Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools are supported by two chaplains. The Chaplains live in or nearby Monmouth town and can be contacted in case of pastoral emergency.

The Chaplain for Monmouth School and the Grange (Monmouth Preparatory School) is the Rev’d Dr. Adrian McConnaughie. The Chaplain for Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls (HMSG) is the Rev’d Dr. Saskia Barnden. Pastoral care for our Nursery and Pre-Prep, Agincourt School, is shared by both Chaplains.

Adrian writes:

‘Welcome to the Chaplaincy at Monmouth School. Thank you for visiting this site and I hope that you find it both informative and interesting. We look forward to welcoming you to the school and the chapel.

I took up the post of Chaplain here at Monmouth in January 2012 having previously been Assistant Curate at Bath Abbey. Prior to ordained ministry I pursued a number of careers. I studied Chemistry at Oxford and, after completing a Ph.D. at the Institute of Cancer Research in London, worked as a Research Scientist in both the USA and Cambridge. This was followed by ten years as a teacher in two schools. I trained for ministry at Trinity College in Bristol from 2006 to 2008, and served my title at Bath Abbey before taking up the post of chaplain at Monmouth School. It is an enormous privilege to be the chaplain of a busy community of people and to play a part in helping each of us grow and develop as individuals in the image of God.’
