Haberdashers' Monmouth Schools' Symphony Orchestra

The orchestra exists to bring our best players together and tackle some of the more challenging and rewarding orchestral repertoire.

Control of the orchestra alternates between the two Schools and this year is in the hands of Monmouth School and under the direction of their Director of Music, Mr. David Lawson.  HMSSO has had its first workshop session this year, studying Mascagni’s Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana, the theme music from Lawrence of Arabia by Maurice Jarre, and the Gayaneh Suite No. 1 by Aram Khachaturian.

Most of the day was spent in sectional couching by guests as well as music staff members from both Schools.  At the end of the day the orchestra came together to run the works in full, and is pictured playing the Sabre Dance from Gayaneh.
