Haberdashers' Monmouth Schools' Symphony Orchestra

Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools’ Symphony Orchestra

This year the HMSSO (Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools’ Symphony Orchestra), a joint project of both schools, is being led by HMSG and for the first time will be directed by HMSG’s Head of Performance Studies, Mrs Ruth Friend. The orchestra has now had the first two of three weekend workshops to prepare one of the great orchestral works of the nineteenth century, Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition in its orchestration by Maurice Ravel.  The workshops were staffed by instrumental specialists from both Schools as well as some professional performers from National ensembles.  The performance of this work will take place on 20th March 2012 at the Wyastone Concert Hall, and will form the first half of a concert that will also include a performance by both Schools of Carl Orff’s choral masterpiece Carmina Burana, under the baton of Monmouth School’s Director of Music, Mr. David Lawson.  An event not to be missed, tickets will be available after half-term.
