The Course
The course is concerned with the exploration of ideas and materials in various areas of Art and Design. Areas covered include Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Ceramics, Textiles, Sculpture, Photography and Art Appreciation.
The course will introduce students to a wide range of media and techniques covering the four Assessment Objectives. During the 4th and 5th terms students will start a 45hr controlled assessment which will enable them to demonstrate their levels of achievement and understanding.
Students will be expected to develop their skills in the subject through:
• investigations and contextual studies • experimenting and selecting appropriate media, materials and processes
• recording their ideas and observations in a resource book or through finished pieces • presenting a personal, informed response to the set topics or projects, making relevant connections with artists and their own work.
Assessment

The course is divided into two parts:
Unit 1: Personal Portfolio in Art and Design: internally set projects 60% marks
Unit 2: Externally Set Assignment (ESA): externally set title 40% marks
All work is marked internally and externally moderated
