Monmouth Enterprise Initiative

Every year, ten boys from Monmouth School and ten girls from HMSG enjoy a unique experience of business life in the City of London as part of the Monmouth Enterprise Initiative.  This scheme was established by Lord Ezra, former Chairman of the national Coal Board and an Old Monmothian, and enables students to get a feel for the ‘cut and thrust’ of top-level business.  Through his generous donation, ten successful applicants from each of the senior Haberdashers’ schools enjoy a reception and dinner at Haberdashers’ Hall, before spending the following day at globally-famous firms, shadowing some of London’s dynamic high-fliers.

This year’s sponsors were the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists, including such established companies as IBM, Aviva and Lloyds TSB.  Previous sponsors have included the Worshipful

Companies of Solicitors and International Bankers, allowing boys to spend time at the London offices of Slaughter & May, Macfarlanes, JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley among others.

Headmaster Dr Steven Connors sees this as a golden opportunity for both employers and future employees.  “At Monmouth we believe that the challenging extra-curricular education we provide is as important as the academic success we promote in creating the business leaders of tomorrow.”
