As part of phase one of The Heart Project, the old Grange building has been converted into fully en suite, single study boarding accommodation for all our VI.2 boarders in their pre-university year. Buchanan House opened in September 2011 and combines the elegance of Georgian architecture with the comfort of modern, purpose-built sleeping and studying accommodation. Each study bedroom has Internet access to ensure we create the perfect work environment.
The School was pleased to announce that Mr Kingsley Jones will be the first housemaster of this new VI.2 house. This pre-university boarding house provides a new experience for Monmouth School boarders which provides an excellent preparation for university and help them to focus on their final examinations in their A2 year.
This move freed up space in the existing boarding houses, enabling boys to enjoy single or shared study bedrooms from the Fifth Form. Junior Boarding has expanded to include boys in Prep III and IV (Years 5 and 6), who have moved into Chapel House. Boys from Chapel House joined their peers in either Weirhead, School or New House, and Mr David Hope became Housemaster of Weirhead.

In addition to improved boarding facilities, The Heart Project will increase the size and number of classrooms and replace existing rooms, improve boarding facilities, replace an ageing Dining Hall, streamline classroom locations, provide appropriate reception and meeting facilities, extend play and congregating spaces, and provide a ‘heart’ at the centre of the School.
