The Foundation Scholarship Examination is held over three days and overnight accommodation is provided at Monmouth School. Six compulsory papers are taken, each of 1½ hours duration: English, French, History and Geography, Mathematics I, Mathematics II and Science. Candidates, who so wish, may offer in addition Religious Education, Latin, Greek, Spanish and Music, provided this is requested well in advance of the examination. Candidates may bring with them a selection of Art work, and are encouraged to bring other current project or course work of interest in subjects such as History and Geography and Scientific investigations.
(For boys attending IAPS schools) The syllabus is published by the ISEB (Independent Schools Examination Board).
(For boys attending other schools) This is of a standard equivalent to that of Common Entrance, and consists of a Mathematics, an English and a French paper. Candidates will also be invited to an interview with the Director of Studies and in some cases with an appropriate Head of Department to establish their level of ability in other subjects.
