Monmouth School is delighted to announce that there is a new Sixth Form Scholarship.  It has been awarded to a student joining in September 2011 and the next scholarship will be available for those applying for entry in September 2013.  David Hitchcock, a past pupil of Monmouth School has very generously agreed to fund a VIth Form Boarding Scholarship. The Award will be means-tested and could cover up to 75% of the fees.  Headmaster, Dr Steven Connors, said,

“We are extremely grateful to David as we believe his generosity could provide a life-changing opportunity to a young man.  Monmouth School has a proud tradition of teaching strategically important but vulnerable subjects such as science, technology, maths, modern foreign languages including Russian, as well as subjects disappearing from the curriculum elsewhere like Greek and Latin.  Not only would the Sixth Form Scholarship offer exceptional preparation for A levels and advice on university options but it would also offer the chance to participate in all the extra-curricular activities that a school like Monmouth delivers.”

David, who was born in Ebbw Vale, attended Monmouth School in the 1970s after he won the William Jones Scholarship.  During his time at Monmouth School he fully participated in the many extra-curricular activities that the School had to offer: playing the piano, organ and viola, acting in school plays, being a member of the Monmouth Schools Challenge General Knowledge Quiz that became UK Champions and a member of the First XV.  He won an Open Exhibition to Pembroke College Cambridge, where he gained a boxing blue to add to his musical accomplishments. After graduating from The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and serving with The Royal Regiment of Wales and The Gurkhas, he began his career in the City and is currently a Managing Director at JP Morgan where he is Head of Investor Client Management for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

David said,

"I feel strongly that without the William Jones Scholarship, my life would have been very different and I wish to provide a similar opportunity to future generations.  It is important for me to repay, as best I can, the help I was given.  Monmouth School offered me and many other boys a chance to develop at a crucial and formative time and the wonderful experience it gives boys today is even more special."
