Over 130 musicians from Monmouth School and Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls took part in the annual Charity Concert in the Blake Theatre on Friday 4 December.
The evening saw performances by groups ranging from three pupils to sixty pupils, and in all styles, from classical to big band. The evening was in aid of the Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA) and their representative, Mervyn Fleming, gave an enlightening talk on the work of the Association, which receives no government funding and yet looks after safety on the whole of the tidal rivers Severn and Wye. The concert raised over £1,000 and a cheque will be presented to the Association in the New Year.
Director of Music David Lawson said, “Our musicians themselves chose this charity and what a worthy cause it is. We are so pleased to be able to bring together the efforts of so many of our pupils to produce such an enjoyable and festive evening in such a good cause”.
