A Musical Treat...

Over 220 musicians from Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools took to the platform at the Wyastone Concert Hall.  They performed Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, Arutyunyan’s Trumpet Concerto, Adam Gorb’s Eine Kleine Yiddishe Ragmusik, Paul Epworth’s Skyfall (from the Bond film) and Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances.  As in previous years the choir included all pupils in Year 7, who have been taught their choral parts in class lessons by staff members at both Schools.  The performances were conducted by Director of Music David Lawson, as well as Patricia Dollins, who conducts Symphonic Winds.

The soloist in the Trumpet Concerto was Year 13 pupil, Sam, who already has offers from all the major conservatoires for next year.  Director or Music David Lawson said ‘Having these big performances with so many pupils performing real music at this level is one of the highlights of our year.  To have a performer of Sam’s quality also in the concert was a real treat’.
