Puzzlewood Art Trip

Puzzlewood Art Visit

Sixth form art students recently visited the Puzzlewood on an art visit, on the topic of nature drawing. The Puzzlewood is near Coleford in the Forest of Dean, and is one of Britain’s oldest and most beautiful woodlands. The site itself covers 14 acres, and is regarded as one of the best examples of open cast iron mines from the pre-Roman era that still exists in the forest today.

The art students used the twisted roots, lush moss, algae and dark stone cliffs as inspiration for some large expressive pieces. They used charcoal and oil pastels in large fluid motions, adding real movement and life to their pieces.

The students will now use these initial pieces to work on a final piece which will be framed in either the dining room or the Puzzlewood shop.
