Over the course of this year there will be a number of musical performances as part of the Blake’s Merlin music society. These performances range from Cabaret to Vaughn-Williams and promise to entertain anyone with an interest in music.
The Merlin Concerts first began 42 years ago with the intention of supplying the small town of Monmouth with music generally only available to those living in a city. Past performances include Richard Rodney Bennett, Freddy Kempf and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
The first performance of the series is from the Welsh Baroque Orchestra. Formed in 1992, this period ensemble aims to recreate the music of an era. Its repertoire ranges from Monteverdi to British composers such as Chilcot of Bath. They can even promise early ventures into the Classical transition. This not only has potential to be a musical treat but could also prove to be of interest from an historic perspective.
