The Lion

The Lion is the School’s weekly newspaper.  It has been published in School for over ten years. Under the supervision of English teacher Miss Evans, The Lion offers boys from form 3 and above the opportunity to work together and oversee the editing and production of an A3 format newspaper.  Editors have responsibility for organising a team of journalists who work on a weekly basis to produce articles that range from contemporary issues such as music, politics, science and sport among many.  One former editor now works for the BBC’s Radio 4 and another had work experience on The Times, whilst some have found professional work in journalism ranging from the BBC, The Times and The Guardian.

On Speech Day, the finale of the school year, a special edition of The Lion is published to showcase the best of the creative writing pieces from the boys.  The Lion's Tale is a showcase for the great variety of creative writing that has taken place during the academic year.  “Central themes of the Lion's Tale concern war, love and anthropomorphic fallacy; the best of which are included in the celebratory issue. Philosophical outlooks on love and life are seen in the poems, along with seasonal joy towards Christmas etc” Tom Parfitt 2009 Editor.
