Last term was a fabulous one for our choirs, though I would say that Grange Choir was in some way ‘subsumed’ into the events surrounding GOLD!. The Chamber Choir’s visit to Windsor was a treat and standing in the Quire of St. George’s Chapel conducting Gibbons with various soloists singing their parts beautifully is something which will stay with me for a long time. And what is there to say about Carmina Burana? Other than to say it made a tremendous impact, I shall simply quote the Headmaster, who wrote to me ‘. . . I don’t think I have heard better in thirty years of working in independent schools’.

This term choral events kick off with Choral Eucharist sung in the Chapel by the Chamber Choir on Sunday 27th May. We will rehearse at 9.15 and the service begins at 10.15. After that I will stop the Thursday rehearsals for a while as I know the boys want to concentrate on their exams, but we will restart them in later June as it is the Chamber Choir which will this year sing the Commemoration Service on the final day of term. The Grange Choir will make a return visit to the Bridges Community Centre on Thursday 21st June (along with Grange Band). We had tremendous fun there last year, and if parents want to come to hear the boys sing and play do please let me know, as I need to pass the details on to the Bridges in advance. Grange Choir will also sing at the Prize Giving at the end of term. Choral Society will not rehearse this term, but we will start again in September with a project every bit as exciting as Carmina Burana.
