Higher Education and Careers

The Higher Education and Careers Department is overseen by the Head of the Sixth Form. In addition to providing some excellent resources to help students make choices (starting from the 3rd Form onwards with Careers lessons in PSHE), part of the Key Skills and enrichment course taken by 6.1 students includes a careers component. The Careers and Higher Education Department produces a Gap Handbook, a Work Experience Handbook and a Higher Education Guide. In partnership with HMSG, a Careers Convention, a Gap Evening and a Higher Education Forum are organised each year. Monmouth School also has its own Oxbridge Forum and candidates are given practice interviews in partnership with the two schools. Monmouth School Higher Education and Careers Team Tutors, Housemasters, Heads of Department and subject teachers are always willing to give students support. Other staff specialise in specific areas.

Almost all pupils at Monmouth School go on to university with the vast majority (normally in excess of 90%) achieving their firm or insurance choice offers. There is a long tradition of boys who go onto Oxford or Cambridge, with seven places being offered for 2012. Usually around half of the boys will go onto Russell Group universities with many also going onto Medical School.  Support is also provided for those boys who decide university is not the next step for them when leaving VI.2.  Furthermore, the School is always happy to offer advice and guidance at any stage to students or former students about their higher education or careers options.
