Forms I & II
Drama is taught as one of the modules in PSHE in both the first and second years. Each group normally has six single lessons that serve as an introduction to Drama or a refresher for those students from the Grange. Interested students are encouraged to join Junior Drama.
The aim for both Form I & II modules is to familiarise students with basic drama techniques and create improvisations. This covers the four main areas of drama: role, narrative, language and personal skills. Drama seeks to encourage creativity and co-operation, developing tolerance and understanding of others.
Form III
This is very much a foundation for GCSE with an emphasis on developing physical skills. There is a scheme of work on mime to begin the year which is followed by a unit on building character. The GCSE drama book is used for skill building and small extract work. In addition to building confidence and creativity in improvisation, students use extracts of plays to explore voice, gesture, character development, proxemics and dramatic focus.
Each student should complete:
- a review of a production - devised performances - scripted performances -written evaluations after substantial projects
The year will culminate with each group performing.
