Junior Battle Reenactment

On Monday 11th October, first and second form boys took part in the Annual Junior History Battle Reenactment. The boys had a great time reenacting the battle of Bosworth Field between the House of Lancaster and the House of York. Each year, junior boys are divided into two teams and each boy wears a paper tag on his arm with his team colours. The object of the battle is to remove the tag of the opposing boys, who are then “dead” and have to lie down until the battle is over.

After a few minutes of heated skirmish, the battle is called to an end and the team with the most men still standing is the winner. 6th form History students help out by acting as “Gods” who make sure there is no foul play on the battlefield and that no student is using a weapon deemed unsafe or inappropriate. The job of these “Gods” is usually very easy because all the boys are very cooperative and have a strong sense of fairness in mind.

It has become a tradition over the last few years that the battle is not historically accurate and the side that lost in the past wins in the reenactment. However, this year was the exception as, true to the original outcome, the House of Lancaster won the battle.
