Early season success for softball

May 23, 2016

SoftballIn their first outing of the season the new recruits for the Monmouth Rockets took part in the Solent Softball League’s Rookie Ball tournament in Southampton and with 3 wins and only 1 loss on the day the Rockets came away with the Solent Softball League Cup. The winter training schedule was a great help but match nerves and inexperience caused the Rockets to make some avoidable mistakes early on that gave their opponents easy runs. However, as the day progressed the new players responded and  grew more assured and put in their strongest performance in the final. This win was a great preparation for the Bristol league matches which lie ahead. Player’s player of the tournament was short-stop Ken (School House) whose diving catches and bullet throws would have graced any level of the game.
