Dr Steven Connors is to retire in August 2015 after leading Monmouth School for ten years

June 17, 2014

Under his leadership, the School has raised its profile nationally and locally, winning the prestigious Archant Best British Boarding School Award, gaining ‘Excellent’ in every category in the recent Estyn inspection report and increasing the school roll to over 700.

Dr Connors said,

“It is an enormous privilege to be Headmaster of Monmouth School and I can honestly say it remains a joy to work with such a talented, dedicated and committed group of staff, with our very experienced Governors and of course with a host of talented and well-disposed pupils. We who work at the School are also enormously fortunate in our parent body, who are always so supportive of our ethos.”

Mr Sheridan Swallow, Chairman of the Board of Governors said,

“With a year to go until Steven’s retirement, it is too early to start saying our farewells as we still have much to enjoy and achieve together in this milestone 400th Anniversary year. However, it is appropriate at this stage to say thank you to Steven for all that he has accomplished so far and for the leadership, commitment and enthusiasm that he has demonstrated since his appointment in September 2005.

“The Governors have started the process of recruiting a suitable successor to build on the strong foundations that Dr Connors has put in place during his years at the helm. Undoubtedly, we will attract very high quality candidates from which to appoint the next Head of Monmouth School.”
