Cross country news: Golds and silvers at season start

September 16, 2017

On Thursday, 14th September, the XC club competed in its first fixture of the term at the South East Wales XC relay championship held at Blackwood.  In the first race of the day, our Form I team had an incredibly exciting battle with Newbridge.

Henry ran a good first leg to come in 2nd with Oliver taking the team into the lead on leg 2.  In the 3rd and final leg, Arthur had a fantastic battle with the Newbridge runner who had caught him just after halfway.  He fought back to seal the gold medals for Monmouth by just 2 seconds.  Our B team finished a creditable 8th out of the 20 teams.  Will got our Form II A team off to a solid start, closely followed by the B team’s Bailey.  Kit ran a very good second leg to bring our A-team into 3rd before Adam gained another position on the final leg to secure the silver medals.  Our B and C teams competed well with our B-team finishing 5th and the C-team 13th.

An excellent start to the cross-country season, well done boys!
