Cricket News – Elite Spin Coaching and bowling award for rising stars

November 12, 2016

cricketHuge congratulations to William (right) and Owen (left), both of whom are rising stars in Monmouth School’s Cricket programme. William has just received an award for his work last season and Owen has been given a fantastic opportunity in preparing for the next one. Well done to both boys, here are the full details of their achievements:

William has received the Junior bowling award for Herefordshire C.C.C for the second consecutive year. He is a fast medium bowler who was the leading wicket taker for the county. William was the stand out performer for the county during their cricket week held at Shrewsbury school, where he was one of the quickest bowlers on display.

Owen has been chosen for the Glamorgan Elite Spin Programme, and will be coached by Glamorgan & England off spinner Robert Croft as well as Glamorgan and England A left arm spinner Dean Cosker. The squad has been chosen from the best spinners to have represented Wales at their age groups last year. Owen will attend the indoor cricket school at Neath before Christmas, and in the New Year the sessions will transfer to the indoor cricket centre at the SWALEC stadium in Cardiff. The purpose of the programme is to identify young spinners who might have the potential to play first class cricket for Glamorgan in the future. Owen had a very successful season for Wales last year and hopefully with this specialist coaching will continue to go from strength to strength.
