Budding cricketers trial for Bunbury

April 26, 2016

Cracking cricketers from all over the region flocked to Monmouth School to take part in the U15 Wales and South West Bunbury trials.

The top 40 players within the age category took part in two 40 over matches on Sunday, all hoping to make it through to the final selection round of the prestigious Bunbury Festival.

cricket4Over the years, the event has helped discover and nurture many talented cricketers. More than 300 Bunbury players have gone on to play first class cricket, with 60 achieving the ultimate honour of representing England.

All of the boys enjoyed the excellent facilities at the School, as well as the good quality of the cricket wickets.

John Derrick, Head of the Cricket Board of Wales, said: “It is a pleasure to come to Monmouth School, where we are always well looked after.

“It is nice to have the U15 age group back here after Monmouth School and the Cricket Board of Wales did such a good job of hosting the Bunbury Festival back in 2011.

“We are delighted that eight Welsh boys are in the final trial and hope that some gain selection for the final squad.”

David Graveney, who is the National Performance Manager, was also present and spoke at length to all of the players.

He was very grateful to Monmouth School for all they had done on the day.
