As well as British boarders, Monmouth School is home to boys from countries as diverse as Russia, Spain, Hong Kong and Kuwait (to name just a few). Overseas pupils play a key role in boarding and we are proud of our international mix, which enriches school life immeasurably.
It can be a daunting prospect moving, often half way around the world, to a new place, new school, full of new people. We can promise your son a huge welcome and it won’t be long before he really does regard us as his second family. We are extremely proud of the pastoral care we offer to each and every one of our pupils.
To help our overseas boarders to integrate and get the most from their time here, we maintain a good balance of cultural groups within the houses and bedrooms. We also encourage boys to work and socialise with pupils of all nationalities within the school community.
While we very much welcome enquiries from overseas students wishing to join Monmouth School, we take great care to maintain a good balance of British and international students in the boarding houses. All boys take the entrance exam to the school in English.
“Pupils were unanimous that boarding at the school was a positive experience. There was an ethos of mutual care and respect in existence between pupils and staff.”

All boys from overseas have a guardian with whom they can stay on exeat and leave-out weekends and half term holidays, as well as in any emergency. These may be relatives or friends, or may be a local guardian found through a guardianship organisation.
The school has links with a number of guardian agencies, but it is the parents’ responsibility to make arrangements for their son’s guardian.
Airport / station transport
At the beginning and end of each term, the school provides coach and minibus transport to and from London Heathrow Airport. Unaccompanied minors are collected by taxi.
The school can provide minibus transport to Newport train station at leave-outs, exeats, half term and the beginning and end of term, but these must be booked with the house master in advance.
