Frank2A dedicated sportsman who trains six days a week around his studies has become a national triathlon champion.

Frank, a boarder at Monmouth School, was fastest in the male youth category of the Llanelli Sprint Triathlon to swim 750m, cycle 30k and run 5k.

The 15-year-old grew up in the French Alps, which is where he started cycling, and still trains there in the holidays.

He said: “I love race days because they’re fun and exciting.

“I had a strong bike ride as cycling is my forte.

“I am very grateful to my housemaster as he encourages me to train and allows me to go on my rides.”

Frank’s training schedule includes swimming before school twice a week, running along the River Wye twice a week and cycling 30k at least once a week and 80k on Sundays with his fellow triathletes, including his brother Finn who is in sixth form.

He added: “I find that exercise really helps me to work better – and I do my best to get my school work done before going out.

“My goal is to complete an Iron Man challenge in the future.”

With the win under his belt, Frank now hopes to be successful in the Pembrokeshire Sprint Triathlon this year, among other competitions.

He also has a 1.9k open water swim coming up and a 70k bike race.

“I get to meet great new friends through training,” He added.

“I also get to spend more time with my dad, my brother and my cousin – and I find it helps me get fit for the rugby season.”
